Shane C. Burgess, Director
Shane C. Burgess has been the Director of the LSBI since 2007. In addition to this role, Shane is the Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives & Economic Development in the the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and a Professor in the Department of Basic Sciences in the vet school. His areas of expertise include cancer biology, virology, proteomics, immunology, and bioinformatics.
Shane was born in Otahuhu, New Zealand, and grew up in New Zealand and Australia. He earned his B.V.Sc. (equivalent to a D.V.M. degree) in 1989 from Massey University (New Zealand) and received a Ph.D. in virology/immunology from the University of Bristol (England) in 1998. During and between degrees he worked as a veterinary surgeon.
Shane, wife Jennifer, son Aidan, and daughter Ailey reside in Starkville, MS.
